DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This is a partner program through the National Council of Nonprofits\, not hosted by Nonprofit Connect. \n\n\n\nPublic policy decisions have a significant impact on nonprofits and the communities we serve. When nonprofits have a seat at the table\, we can help ensure that local needs and perspectives inform decision-making. Board members are uniquely positioned to champion and strengthen advocacy within their organizations. This training covers the basics of nonprofit advocacy   what it is\, why it matters\, legal rules for lobbying\, and how boards can help increase their organization's impact through advocacy.\n\n \n\nOver two 1-hour sessions\, attendees will learn how to:\n\n  Explain why advocacy is essential in advancing nonprofit missions and how advocacy can support the work of your nonprofit.\n\n  Distinguish between advocacy and lobbying\, and describe basic rules for lobbying as a nonprofit.\n\n  Identify one specific action you or your board can take to strengthen your organization's advocacy efforts.
