VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS OPPORTUNITY
VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS OPPORTUNITY
Cornerstone Aviation Academy, Inc.
Cornerstone Aviation Academy is growing, and we are looking for strong, committed leaders who want to help shape what comes next.
Our mission began with a simple idea: introduce young people to aviation and help them discover careers they may never have known existed.
Through FAA Aviation Career Education programs and ACE camps, students have been able to experience aviation beyond the classroom. For some, it is their first time walking into a hangar, seeing aircraft maintenance up close, meeting aviation professionals, or realizing that aviation offers far more career opportunities than becoming a pilot.
Those moments can change how a young person sees their future.
Our work with Jobs for America’s Graduates-Kansas, JAG-K, has allowed us to take that exposure further by connecting students with aviation careers, field experiences, employers, training opportunities, and professionals already working in the industry.
But we never wanted exposure to be the finish line.
We wanted to build a pathway students could actually follow.
That pathway now connects aviation exposure with education, pre-apprenticeship, Registered Apprenticeship, industry experience, and employment.
Cornerstone Aviation Academy has established a Kansas Registered Apprenticeship pathway in aviation maintenance. Most recently, we reached another major milestone through the U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship system with National Guideline Standards supporting our planned expansion across 11 states.
Around here, we have started joking:
“I guess we’re national now.”
The joke makes us smile. The responsibility behind it is very real.
As Cornerstone grows, we need strong people around the table who can help us grow responsibly.
We are currently seeking volunteer board members from Kansas City and across the country.
Aviation experience is welcome, but it is not required.
We are especially interested in candidates with experience in:
Aviation and aerospace
Finance and accounting
Banking and investment
Law and nonprofit governance
Fundraising and philanthropy
Corporate partnerships and sponsorships
Education and workforce development
Registered Apprenticeship and skilled trades
Marketing and communications
Government and community relations
Economic development
Technology and innovation
Real estate and facilities
Business leadership and entrepreneurship
More important than the title on your résumé is what you are willing to bring to the table.
We need people who ask thoughtful questions.
People who understand governance, accountability, and stewardship.
People who can help us make sound decisions.
People who are willing to open doors, make introductions, build relationships, and help strengthen the organization for the long term.
WHAT BOARD SERVICE LOOKS LIKE
Board members will be expected to participate in quarterly Board of Directors meetings, with virtual participation available.
Members will also actively participate on a board committee, provide strategic guidance, support organizational accountability, help strengthen financial sustainability, and serve as ambassadors for Cornerstone Aviation Academy.
Board members are also expected to support fundraising and resource development through relationship-building, introductions, sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and personal giving at a level meaningful to them.
This is a working board.
We are not looking for people who simply want another board title.
We are looking for builders.
Connectors.
Problem-solvers.
People willing to use their experience and relationships to help create opportunities for the next generation.
You do not have to live in Kansas City to serve.
As Cornerstone expands its reach, we welcome qualified candidates from across the country who are ready to participate, contribute, and help us build.
If you believe young people deserve access to careers they may never have known existed, we would like to hear from you.
If you believe apprenticeship and workforce development can create real economic opportunity, we would like to hear from you.
And if you are looking for a board where your experience can make a measurable difference, we should talk.
