Job Description and Expectations

ICE Studios is a creative youth empowerment organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of dance. Located in the heart of the urban core, ICE Studios offers a safe, welcoming space where young people can express themselves, build confidence, and connect with positive role models through movement and mentorship.

Our vision is to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the youth we serve—empowering them not only to become skilled dancers but also resilient leaders, dreamers, and changemakers in their communities. Purpose: To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of (name of org) so as to support the organization’s mission and needs. 

Mission: As a performing arts dance studio, we exist to teach the youth and help them build a healthy lifestyle in a positive and creative environment.
Major responsibilities:
  • Organizational leadership and advisement
  • Organization of the board of directors, officers, and committees
  • Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures 
  • Financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget
  • Oversight of program planning and evaluation
  • Personnel evaluation and staff development
  • Review of organizational and programmatic reports
  • Promotion of the organization
  • Fundraising and outreach
*Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interests of ICE STUDIOS SCHOOL OF DANCE. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience and vantage point in the community.

Length of term: One year, which may be renewed up to a maximum of three consecutive terms, pending approval of the board. 

Meetings and time commitment: 
  • The board of directors meets every other Month on the second Tuesday of the month, 7:00 p.m., via zoom or in person (at least 2 meetings). Meetings typically last 90 minutes.
  • Committees of the board meet an average of four times per year, pending their respective work agenda.
  • Board members are asked to attend no more than two special events or meetings per year, as they are determined.
Participation/Engagement: 
  • Attend 75% or four out of six board meetings.
  • Attend two out of three workshops, i.e. board retreat, training and strategic planning sessions.
  • Serve on at least one committee, i.e. fundraiser, volunteer recital and/or ad-hoc committee.
  • Attend, support and participate in special events, activities and functions of ICE STUDIOS SCHOOL OF DANCE 
  • Commit to volunteering or participation in the studio fundraisers and  events.
  • Serve as an Ambassador for the Studio, which includes public speaking/networking events.
  • Recruit volunteers and potential board members.
  • Be willing to actively serve a full 1-year term.
  • Abide by the By-laws of Ice Studios School of Dance and its mission.
  • Come prepared for all meetings having read all materials and meeting minutes before the meetings.
  • Be respectful of others' opinions and embrace different points of views.
  • Serve in the best interest of Ice Studios School of Dance.
  • Respect and support all board decisions through a consensus of “Fist to Five” .
  • Incentives for participating on the Board , you will receive a studio broche, and your choice of a personalized board Studio ICE gear or Swag Bag. You will also be able enjoy the Studios Annual Holiday Party, Program Debriefing dinner and an all inclusive paid Business retreat.
  • Above all, operate in the most ethical of manners and uphold the policies and procedures of the studio.
Financial Commitment:
  • Actively engage in fundraising by doing at least 2 of the following:
    -​Secure at least 2 individual donations, corporate sponsorships and/or grants in the amount of at least $1k to $5k per year.
    -Secure cash and/or in-kind contributions for programs or special events.
  • Make an annual personal investment of at least $300 or $25 per month.
If I am unable to carry out the board expectations, I agree that it is in the best interest of Ice Studios School of Dance for me to resign my position on the board. I have read and understand the Board Member Expectations.
