WHY VOLUNTEER WITH US
Kansas City Jazz ALIVE! is powered by people who love this music and this city. Our volunteers are the warm faces at the door, the helping hands behind every event, and the ambassadors who keep Kansas City’s jazz legacy thriving — including our signature Spotlight: Charlie Parker celebration each August. Whether you can give a single afternoon or return season after season, there is a place for you here. No experience is necessary — just a love of jazz and a willingness to pitch in.
WAYS TO SERVE
Volunteers can serve in one or more of the following areas, based on their interests and availability:Event Support
- Help with set-up, signage, and tear-down at concerts, tours, and special events.
- Assist with logistics and day-of coordination so programs run smoothly.
- Welcome and greet guests, and help them feel at home.
- Support check-in, ticketing, ushering, and wayfinding, and answer questions.
- Staff merchandise and donation tables and process sales or contributions.
- Share our mission with guests and invite their support.
- Assist performers and presenters with green-room and hospitality needs.
- Help artists and speakers have everything they need to shine.
- Support the Walking Jazz History Tours at 18th & Vine and the Jazz Heritage displays.
- Represent KC Jazz ALIVE! at community events and help spread the word.
- Distribute materials and help amplify our programs on social media.
- Lend a hand with administrative tasks such as data entry, mailings, and event preparation.
WHAT WE ASK OF VOLUNTEERS
- Reliability — arrive for the shifts you commit to, and let us know in advance if plans change.
- A warm, welcoming attitude toward guests, artists, and fellow volunteers.
- Willingness to represent the mission and values of KC Jazz ALIVE!
- Attention to event and safety guidelines.
- Completion of a brief volunteer orientation before your first assignment.
WHO SHOULD VOLUNTEER
Everyone is welcome. Students (18+), retirees, working professionals, musicians, and lifelong fans all have a home on our volunteer team. The only real requirements are dependability, a positive spirit, and a love of the music and the community. [Volunteers under 18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.]
