The mission of the Greater Kansas City-Topeka Psychoanalytic Center (GKCTPC) is to provide a public forum for the study, development, and dissemination of psychoanalytic thought and clinical practice; to provide initial training and ongoing professional development for psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists; and to promote awareness and appreciation of psychoanalysis in the general public. GKCTPC operates programs in the areas of clinical education, professional/continuing education, referrals for low fee therapy, and public outreach.
Through the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute (GKCPI) we advance the practice of psychoanalytically-informed mental health treatment through education, support clinician development through consultation, and enhance the mental health of our diverse communities by promoting the application of psychoanalytic thinking in all aspects of life. The Institute also offers programs for guest scholars, training for psychiatric residents, a library, and ethics oversight. Our newest initiatives include the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion seminar and the Free Clinic Project, each with a goal of making psychoanalytic therapies available to marginalized and economically disadvantaged people.
The Greater Kansas City-Topeka Psychoanalytic Center serves the membership of the organization, the medical and health professions, and the general public. Full participation in the life of the Center is open to all individuals who have an interest in psychoanalytic ideas.
