About the Position

KC Mothers in Charge is seeking an experienced, dependable Part-Time Bookkeeper to manage the organization's day-to-day bookkeeping and help maintain strong, accurate financial records.

We are a Kansas City nonprofit providing hope, healing, and practical support to families impacted by homicide. We're looking for someone who is good with numbers, highly organized, comfortable working independently, and interested in using those skills to support a meaningful mission.

This is more than a data-entry position. The right person will help ensure our financial records are accurate, reconciled, well documented, and ready for grant reporting, audits, and organizational oversight.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Online
  • Record and properly categorize income and expenses
  • Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintain organized invoices, receipts, deposits, and supporting documentation
  • Track expenses associated with grants and restricted funding
  • Prepare financial documentation for grant reimbursements and reporting
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and grant monitoring, including gathering, organizing, and providing requested financial records and supporting documentation
  • Maintain clear documentation connecting expenses to invoices, receipts, payments, and funding sources
  • Maintain and assist with reconciliation of the organization's donor database
  • Identify discrepancies, missing documentation, or coding issues and help resolve them
  • Work with the Executive Director and outside accounting support
  • Help maintain clear written bookkeeping procedures and organized financial records

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Previous bookkeeping experience
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
  • Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Excel and common office technology
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality

Especially valuable:

  • Nonprofit bookkeeping experience
  • Grant or restricted-fund accounting experience
  • Grant reimbursement/reporting experience
  • Audit preparation experience
  • Experience with donor management databases

Schedule & Compensation

This is a part-time position of approximately 15–20 hours per week with a flexible hybrid/remote work arrangement. Occasional in-person meetings or work at our Kansas City office may be required.

Pay: $24–$28 per hour, depending on experience.
