Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant supports the accounting team, the organization and its donors by maintaining financial records while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. The Staff Accountant will focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and process improvement.
Responsibilities
Bookkeeping and General Accounting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts.
- Manage accounts receivable, create invoices and post payments, review A/R and manage collections as needed.
- Manage accounts payable, post invoices for payment, process checks and ACH payments; oversee vendor records.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Provide ad-hoc reports for the Finance Manager and CFAO as requested.
- Work cross functionally with the Project Grant Manager to create reports for department managers.
- Track and analyze A/R and A/P, providing regular reports to management.
- Identify areas of cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Assist with monthly grant billing by preparing vouchers for grant funders.
Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:
- Comply with nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, Uniform Grant Guidance, and other relevant legal requirements.
- Assist with financial audits, ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained and provided to auditors.
- Create and maintain documentation for accounting procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work across the organization to streamline processes and improve financial processes.
- Collaborate with program managers and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of financial information for board meetings and grant reporting.
Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a
- related field.
- Minimum of three years as an Accountant or similar role, preferably at a nonprofit.
- Proficiency in accounting software, NetSuite preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of temporarily restricted fund accounting, federal grant reporting and compliance preferred.

- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines; able to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks.
- Ability to be self-directed and highly flexible in daily work.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multicultural and multilingual.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external collaborators.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, Google and NetSuite.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Much of the work is typically performed in an interior temperature-controlled office work environment. Position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Position requires frequent bending, squatting, sitting, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items that may weigh up to 50 lbs.
