Business Development Manager
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager is a strategic revenue generator responsible for expanding earned income through increased theater rentals, corporate and private event partnerships, and group ticket sales tied to current Folly Theater programming. Working cross-functionally with operations, technical, and box office teams, the Business Development Manager will identify new clients, convert interest into contracted events, and leverage existing performances to maximize utilization of the theater and grow sustainable revenue streams. This position plays a critical role in strengthening the Folly Theater’s financial sustainability while advancing its mission as a welcoming, vibrant cultural destination.
Key Responsibilities:
Rental Sales & Client Acquisition

Work closely with Director of Theater Operations to develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy focused on increasing earned revenue from theater rentals, including, but not limited to, corporate events, private events, community organizations, and touring presenters.

Work with Director of Theater Operations and Technical Director to create and pitch proposals, negotiate event logistics, and execute contracts.

Research comparable venue pricing and market conditions to ensure competitive and revenue-optimized rental rates.

Represent the Folly Theater at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote theater rental and group sales opportunities.

Expand the Folly Theater’s visibility and inbound rental inquiries through external online platforms.

Manage end-to-end lead generation and response from online listings and referral channels.

Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Maintain accurate rental and sales records, including contracts, calendars, and event files.

Ensure timely and accurate communication with clients, agents, and internal teams.

Keep staff informed of upcoming events, confirmed rentals, and active sales leads.

Stay current on industry best practices, compliance standards, and emerging sales tools.
Group Ticket Sales & Partnership Development

Build and manage a group sales strategy to increase ticket revenue from:

Corporate groups

Schools and youth organizations
-
Community and affinity groups
-
Nonprofit and civic organizations

Work closely with Director of Marketing and Public Relations and Ticketing Manager to create targeted group offers and partnerships aligned with existing Folly programming.

Work closely with Ticketing Manager to coordinate group on-sales, pricing, and fulfillment.
General Responsibilities

Assist administrative staff with responding to phone calls and walk-in patrons as needed.

Assist Director of Theater Operations with Kids’ Series show research.

Assist with Folly-presented shows and special events as needed.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred.

2 – 3 years of experience in business development, sales, venue rentals, or revenue-focused roles.

Demonstrated success in generating earned revenue through partnerships, sales, or rentals.

Experience developing sales strategies and tracking key performance indicators.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CRM or ticketing system experience a plus.

Strong written, verbal, and negotiation skills.
