Job Summary
New Chapter Coaching is a growing, full-service and award-winning nonprofit consultancy that works with mission-driven organizations to enhance their impact through capacity building. We provide customized, client-centered services including, but not limited to, strategic planning, team building, manager trainings, leadership coaching, and more. We are currently seeking a Director of Capacity Building who is passionate about our mission and is a smart, dependable, and highly motivated individual who wants to be part of a team committed to providing nonprofit clients with the means to make the world a better place. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and experienced professional with a deep understanding of nonprofit management, a passion for capacity building, and a commitment to driving positive social change.

The Director of Capacity Building will lead and manage our capacity-building services, supporting nonprofits in achieving their missions by strengthening organizational effectiveness, improving internal processes, and enhancing overall performance. They will also spearhead internal capacity building and operational improvements to enhance New Chapter Coaching’s performance.

This role will involve a combination of direct client service, program management, and staff leadership. The Director will work closely with clients, providing consulting, training, and coaching in areas such as strategic planning, governance, leadership development, to name a few.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
 Generally, the scope of the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Capacity Building are as follows:
  1. Capacity Building Strategy and Leadership:
  • Lead the development and implementation of capacity building strategies to meet, if not exceed, the needs and expectations of nonprofit clients.
  • Design, plan, and facilitate workshops, training programs, and webinars on key topics such as leadership development, nonprofit governance, strategic planning, and more.
  • Provide one-on-one consulting and coaching to nonprofit leaders, boards, and staff to strengthen organizational capacity.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of capacity-building initiatives and adjust strategies as necessary to maximize effectiveness.
  1. Client Engagement & Relationship Management:
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with nonprofit clients, understanding their unique needs and challenges.
  • Develop customized solutions that are responsive to client goals and provide ongoing support throughout the capacity-building process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, managing expectations and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Develop and manage client contracts, scopes of work, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful project implementation.
  1. Program Management and Development:
  • Lead the creation and execution of capacity-building programs, ensuring they are aligned with organizational goals and client needs.
  • Design (including develop curricula and supporting materials), facilitate, and evaluate in-person and online trainings/workshops sponsored by New Chapter Coaching.
  • Collaborate with other staff to conceptualize, write, and develop toolkits and other resource materials for publication on topics of interest and need for nonprofit leaders.
  • Manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless delivery of client services across different areas of expertise.
  • Stay up to date with trends in nonprofit capacity building and integrate innovative approaches into program offerings.
  1. Team Leadership and Staff Development:
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of associates and program staff, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to staff members to build internal capacity.
  • Lead team meetings and ensure clear communication across all aspects of the capacity-building program.
  1. Business Development:
  • Develop proposals for new capacity-building contracts and maintain an active pipeline of potential clients.
  • Collaborate with the President and other team members to develop strategic business plans and growth initiatives.
  1. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
  • Develop and implement systems for tracking and reporting on the progress and impact of capacity-building programs.
  • Provide regular reports to the CEO and other staff on program outcomes, challenges, and successes.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from clients to continually improve services and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Participate in efforts to track, gather, and analyze data to systematically and comprehensively measure the business’s outcomes and make data-driven decisions
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree in nonprofit management, organizational development, social work, or a related field preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in nonprofit management, organizational development, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience in consulting or capacity-building work with nonprofit organizations is highly preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit sector operations, including governance, fundraising, financial management, program evaluation, and strategic planning.
  • Proven ability to design and facilitate training, workshops, and capacity-building programs.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize on a daily basis, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to express themselves verbally and in writing, and to engage in productive conflict.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with clients, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to listen and empathize with others, as well as cultivate trust-based relationships with diverse kinds of people.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nonprofit capacity building and organizational development best practices.
  • Comfort with technology, including experience with virtual training platforms, project management tools, and other digital solutions.
  • Ability to learn new technology on a regular basis as needed.

Salary: The current opening is flexible; looking for someone who can work at least 36 hrs. per week or someone seeking full-time employment. The range is currently $62,225 - $72,875 when this position is full-time (36 hrs/wk).

Employees are eligible for annual performance bonuses, as well as raises. Recent yearly raises have exceeded the cost of inflation.
