Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1949 to welcome Holocaust survivors and returning World War II veterans looking to rebuild their lives in Kansas City. Section 1: Overview and Purpose of Position

In partnership with the Chief External Affairs Officer, this position is responsible for all fundraising, development, and external communication activities.  The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build on the agency’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Section 2: Qualifications (skills, education, experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred, in nonprofit administration, communications, social work, social services or related fields.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in grants management, donor relations or related activities, at least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Adobe suite, WordPress, Constant Contact and Canva preferred.  
  • Valid driver license with classification appropriate to operate JVS vehicles, valid auto insurance, clean driving record with no moving violations within the past three years.

Section 3: Responsibilities/Duties

Development:

 

  • Work with staff and board to create and implement short- and long-term fund development plan.
  • In collaboration with agency leadership, set annual goals for unrestricted dollars.  
  • Cultivate, manage, steward, and track relationships with all individual, corporate and foundation donors and prospects
  • Oversee management and growth of the donor database (Raiser’s Edge) 
  • In collaboration with the Grants Coordinator, research grant opportunities from corporate and foundation sources, and generate and submit grant proposals, reports, and renewals
  • Set, manage and execute individual fundraising goals
  • Serves as Staff Liaison to Young Professionals Board and Fund Development Committee  

Events:

  • Coordinate fundraising, logistics and publicity including managing venue, vendors, invitations, mailing list for all fundraising events

Marketing and Communications:

  • Develop and produce print materials
  • Communicate with constituents through newsletters, mailings, annual reports, etc.           
  • Maintain contact database
  • In collaboration with the Fund Development Associate, plan and oversee external and internal monthly newsletters
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Will supervise Grants Manager and Fund Development Associate

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines; able to effectively prioritize, delegate, and execute multiple tasks.
  • Ability to be self-directed and highly flexible in daily work.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multicultural and multilingual.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external collaborators and donors.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, Google Docs and internet-based communication.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Effective problem solver with the ability to prioritize.
  • Curious learner who is able to make connections to program staff to learn what is happening in the agency.

Section 5: Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Regular hours Monday-Friday, 8:30 – 4:30, occasional nights/weekends
  • Regular travel to donor meetings, community partners in personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
  • Much of the work is typically performed in an interior temperature-controlled office work environment. Position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Some work may be performed at community sites such as other agency offices, schools, libraries, and other public meeting places. Employees may experience exposure to temperature extremes when in training situations, in a car, and while traveling to contacts outside of the agency facility.
  • Position requires frequent bending, squatting, sitting, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items that may weigh up to 15 lbs.
  • Use of cell phone is also required.

Salary Range: $76,240 – $93,000
