Position Title: Development Director
Location: Metro Kansas-Remote (with in-person meetings weekly)

About Us:
The Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City (BIAKS-GKC) is dedicated to supporting brain injury survivors and their families. Our mission is to provide ongoing brain injury advocacy, education and resources.
Position Overview:
The Development Director will play a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of BIAKS-GKC by driving fundraising initiatives, cultivating donor relationships, managing information and referral services, and serving as the facilitator for support group leaders throughout the state. This position requires a dynamic individual with a passion for our mission, experience in nonprofit fundraising, and excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Donor Relations:
- Work alongside the Executive Director to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to increase financial support through annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and events.
- Identify, cultivate, and grow donor relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, and community partners, securing multi-year commitments to support BIAKS-GKC’s operational needs.
- Administrative tasks related to correspondence with current and prospective donors.
- Responsible for management and timely updates of donor database.
- Create and execute donor stewardship strategies, ensuring high levels of engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify grant opportunities and manage grant application processes.
- Track fundraising progress and report on metrics, adjusting strategies as needed to meet or exceed annual targets.
Information and Referral Services:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for information and referrals for survivors, families, and professionals, ensuring they have access to resources, programs, and services that support brain injury recovery.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of local and regional resources for brain injury survivors and regularly update referral databases.
- Track and document all calls, emails, and inquiries, recording relevant information to ensure follow-up and to monitor trends, gaps, and the overall demand for services.
- Provide regular data reports to the Executive Director on call volumes, referral trends, and identified service gaps to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
- Provide support and guidance to those seeking information about brain injury services, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
Marketing and Social Media:
- Develop and oversee content for social media platforms, websites, email newsletters, and other digital marketing channels, aligning messaging with organizational goals and donor engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and other team members to produce content that highlights BIAKS-GKC’s mission, events, and impact stories to enhance community awareness and attract supporters.
- Monitor social media analytics and engagement, adjusting strategies to maximize reach and effectiveness.
Support Groups:
- Coordinate with support group leaders to gather feedback, assess needs, and provide resources that align with BIAKS-GKC’s mission.
- Identify and provide information on leadership training.
- Identify areas of the state where support groups are not presently available and work with local community partners to offer support to establish groups in these areas.
Community Outreach and Engagement:
- Represent BIAKS-GKC at community events, conferences, and public engagements to enhance visibility and attract potential supporters.
- Build partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups to expand BIAKS-GKC’s impact and reach.
Other duties as assigned by Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Associates, or bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a related role, with demonstrated success in securing major gifts.
- Strong understanding of donor cultivation and stewardship principles and experience working with donor management, or related software.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse stakeholders, including survivors and their families.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills. Employee should exhibit excellent communication, observation, organizational skills and can prioritize workflow and handle multiple, competing, and changing priorities within established time limits and ongoing deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, advanced reports, Outlook) and relevant technology, including CRM and donor management platforms, social media management tools, and online marketing software.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Must have the ability to travel and work weekends, sometimes with short notice.
