JOB SUMMARY: Create and implement an annual development plan, in collaboration with the Major Gifts Officer and President and CEO, to ensure that the short- and long-range needs of the agency are met. Supervise and manage the development team and fund-raising operations for the CPC . In collaboration with the development team, CEO and Board of Directors cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations and organizations. Orient and train board members and other volunteers involved in fund development efforts. Work with volunteers and committees to plan and implement fundraising special events. Work with the social media specialist and Public Relations Consultant to develop and implement an annual communications plan to build awareness of the agency within the community. Provide supervision and oversight of development staff; including contracted employees.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee the operations of the Development Team of the CPC including supervising marketing, social media, and grant writer personnel for CPC. Will work in collaboration with the Major Gifts officer on individual and corporate donations.
2.Annual Development Plan – Develop, implement and monitor the Annual Development Plan.
a. Develop and implement annual and multi-year strategies for development in collaboration with the CEO and development staff with the approval of the Board of Directors.
b. Implement and manage the Annual Development Plan.
c. Monitor progress towards goals of the Annual Development Plan and report to the CEO, Fund Development Committee and Board of Directors monthly.
d. Keep abreast of fund-raising trends and the nonprofit community.
3.Grant Writing – Oversee and supervise the writing of foundation, city/county, state, federal, and corporate grant proposals in compliance with timelines given by foundations or funders. Provide supervision of the CPC grant writer. Fill in to write grants as needed. Supervise and track grant reports and ensure they are submitted in a timely manner. In collaboration with the CPC grant writer, research new grant opportunities.
4.Donor Development and Maintenance– Work with the Major Gifts Officer to develop relationships with current and potential individual, corporate, foundation donors to establish or increase their level of giving.
- Develop a relationship with current donors.
- Identify and cultivate potential new donors.
- Solicit and secure contributions to the Child Protection Center, Inc.
- Coach and assist Board of Directors and President and CEO in arranging informational meetings and solicitations.
- Utilize prospect research tools and donor database to build donor relations.
5. Donor Recognition – In collaboration with the Major Gifts Officer oversee the donor recognition program for The Child Protection Center, Inc.
6.Development Record Management- Oversee the maintenance of the donor database. Develop and maintain a grant report tracking system to ensure staff input for reports and timely submission.
7.Marketing and Public Relations/Communications - Work in collaboration with the President and CEO, Major Gifts Officer, Marketing Strategist, social media strategist, and Public Relations Consultant to implement the Child Protection Center, Inc. marketing and public relations/communications plan.
a. Manage the production and printing of brochures, annual reports, newsletters, and other marketing and public relations/communications materials.
b. Oversee the distribution of printed marketing and public relations/communications materials.
c. Work with the website administrator and social media strategist to oversees all aspects of CPC’s social media and website.
8. Oversight of the Agency budget—In collaboration with the CEO and CPC accountant, provide oversight of the agency budget, grant expenditures and allocation of funds.
- Assist the CEO in preparation for Board meetings and communication regarding the budget and management reports.
- Read and interpret the management report and other financial reports.
- Track grant expenditures.
9. Work with the CPC development staff on all CPC fundraising events, Cook for Courage, Holidays in Crestwood and any third-party events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Experience in non-profit fund raising with demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and leading efforts that increase support from foundations, major donors, businesses, individuals, and special events.
- Excellent working knowledge of development techniques including, but not limited to, grant writing, annual giving, corporate and foundation solicitations, and special events.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Kansas City’s community resources and services.
- CFRE preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Knowledge of database management software.
- The ideal candidate will be highly organized, mission-driven and extremely motivated.
