The Donor and Government Relations Manager is a frontline fundraiser who supports Starlight’s overall philanthropic efforts, with a focus on government relations, donor stewardship, and advisory groups, as well as special campaign and initiatives as needed.

 

Required Accountabilities & Deliverables:

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-125 active donors and prospects, by making timely acknowledgments and finding meaningful ways to further engage with and connect them to Starlight.
  • Oversee Starlight’s Government Affairs efforts by implementing strategies to build relationships at the county, city, and state levels, and by leading external meetings with the Government Affairs committee.
  • Lead the Business and Planned Giving Advisory Councils by facilitating meetings, recruiting members, and setting goals, and make recommendation on potential auxiliary groups for Starlight to consider.
  • Promote Starlight’s Capital Campaign and endowment efforts by stewarding relationships with new campaign donors, hosting social events to raise money for the campaign and meeting with prospective donors to encourage support of Starlight’s future.
  • Support membership renewal outreach, including communications with donor priority seating members.
  • Assist the philanthropy team in the annual development of strategic solicitation appeals, communications, events, and activities, and by drafting of donor communications when needed.
  • Steward staff and ambassador gifts by honoring and recognizing their contributions year-round.
  • Attend and communicate information for Broadway donor lounge and other donor events and receptions.
  • Play a key role in making fundraising asks and building relationships to support the continued success of both of Starlight’s signature events, the Annual Gala and Starry Night at Starlight.

Preferred Education/Work Experience: BA in a relevant degree and/or 5-7 years of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain donor relationships, ensuring engagement through personalized stewardship and meaningful touchpoints.
  • Experience in managing government relationships and mapping out strategies for success.
  • Ability to work across departments to align corporate giving initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Exceptional written & verbal communication, interpersonal, and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications and Tessitura CRM/ticketing platform.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple initiatives.

 

Other Working Conditions: Variable work schedule driven by performance schedule and administrative needs, including nights, weekends and typical holidays; some weeks include 12+ hour days and 45+ total hour weeks. Due to the nature of Starlight’s business, availability/communication may be required in cases of urgent or emergency matters during nights and weekends.
