Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Children’s Services provides leadership and oversight for all children’s programming, including the Community Kids Early Learning and Wellness Center. This role supports high-quality early childhood education and youth development services while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment.
The Assistant Director is responsible for program implementation, daily operations, staff supervision, and cross-functional collaboration to support children’s academic, social, and emotional development while strengthening family stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Implementation:
- Collaborate with staff to create and adapt program curriculum to support emotional and behavioral development effectively.
- Support the evaluation of program impact and adapt approaches based on feedback and observed outcomes.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with other teachers, support staff, and volunteers to maintain a unified and supportive environment for children.
- Engage in team meetings, training sessions, and brainstorming to share insights, ideas, and strategies for enhanced behavioral support.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of children's progress, behavioral incidents, and interactions as required by program guidelines.
- Prepare reports and updates for staff meetings to inform team members of behavioral trends and individual achievements.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in early childhood or youth development
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience required
- Experience in a licensed childcare setting preferred
- Understanding of behavioral management techniques, trauma-informed care, and childhood development.
- Ability to work with children from diverse backgrounds and adapt approaches to meet each child’s unique needs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and empathetic approach.
- Ability to maintain required child-to-staff ratios
- Understanding of licensing requirements
- Lesson planning and knowledge of developmentally appropriate childcare practices
- Ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 25 pounds and extended periods of standing
- Strong commitment to serving families experiencing homelessness or poverty
- Flexible schedule within operating hours: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM, with occasional evenings or weekends
