Early Intervention Coordinator

Under the supervision of the program director, this position oversees and directs the planning, organizing and implementation of early interventions service for children. Guides classroom teams in development and implementation of intervention services that will meet the needs of all students within the framework of solid early childhood education practices. Monitor completion of children’s assessments and problem solving through any barriers to children’s ability to access the curriculum based on their individual needs. Coordinates IEP (Individualized Education Program), IFSP process for program with school districts, parents, program staff and other stakeholders. Works with MARC (Mid America Regional Council) staff to support early head start process and procedures within the program. Assist classroom staff in identifying their professional development needs. Seek out resources for staff professional development and provide 1:1 support and training as indicated or directed. Support classroom staff in use and analysis of data to support decision making. Lead classroom team meetings with the goal of providing a comprehensive approach to the needs of the child within a classroom setting. Coordinates therapeutic services being provided within the classroom to classroom-based children. Serves as main point of contact for classroom therapy team. Demonstrates effective communication skills in 1:1 and group settings. Approximately 50% of work time or more, is spent in classrooms engaged with teacher and children, counting in ratio, and providing program supervision daily.
Education:
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s in special education preferred.
  • Bachelors in other special degree areas related to specially designed instruction, related services, or learning specialty with related experience considered.
Experience:
  • Two years experience in working with young children with disabilities as a Lead Teacher required
  • Proficiency in working with early intervention, early childhood, and school age population.
  • Experience working with Open Ended Curriculum formats (Creative Classroom, Reggio, Project Based Learning, etc.).
  • Experience working in a Head Start Environment preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Licensure/Certification:
  • Current state professional license/certification or eligible, as appropriate to profession.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through written and spoken language.
  • Ability to work with families from a variety of ethnic, cultural, linguistic, social economic and religious backgrounds.
