The Johnson County Library is looking for a Donor Relations Coordinator for our development department. This new position will report to the Library’s Development Director/Foundation Executive Director and will work with our four-person team to grow the Johnson County Library Foundation. Fundraising supports our outstanding 14 branch libraries, over 20 programs, and over $3 million endowment.

The Donor Relations Coordinator position is ideal for someone who wants to be part of a strong team that values long term relationships with donors and library patrons. The coordinator will be tasked to create and implement a new annual direct mail/email/texting plan. Additionally, they will prospect, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual and event gifts focusing on donors in the $500 to $15,000 donation range. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are needed. This person will be representing the Library and County at many community networking events like those sponsored by the local chambers. This person must have the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with library colleagues and Foundation Board Members.  First review of applications will take place on March 3, 2025. Other duties include:

• Works with development department staff and foundation volunteers to develop and cultivate relationships in the community on behalf of the Library and Library Foundation; cultivates, solicits, and stewards annual donations, event donations, corporate giving, and special gifts to the Foundation for the Library; creates a comprehensive direct mail and digital solicitation plan in conjunction with development department team calendar; promotes the Library's funding priorities with the community; represents the Library at community events including chamber events, charity events, and partner events in Johnson County and Kansas City metro area; researches donors and seeks opportunities for the Library and the Foundation to partner with others in the community; participates in fundraising events such as Library Lets Loose and the 1952 Society.
• Understands and adheres to relevant department and County processes, procedures, and protocols related to public interactions, safety, security, purchasing policies, and facilities management; understands and adheres to brand standards through the fundraising process; maintains proficiency with donor database and Constant Contact.
• Completes various administrative tasks related to fundraising or assigned functions; creates and sends mailings; manages documents and meeting agendas; schedules meetings; produces meeting notes; produces reports; maintains confidential records of interactions with prospective donors.
• Manages relevant budgets; reviews bills for accuracy and approves payments; assists director with reconciliation of expenses; pulls reports and data; provides input regarding creation of future budgets.
• Coordinates with department staff in various ways to carry out events and programs; manages relevant County and/or community relationships to maximize partnership opportunities; collaborates with appropriate staff and volunteers; works closely with Johnson County Library staff to develop relationships; learns and becomes involved in organization culture; attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions; reviews publications and other materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

Minimum Job Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration, or relevant field is required.  Four (4) years of experience in development/fundraising or relevant experience is also required.  

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

One (1) year of experience in major gift fundraising and three (3) years of experience in public service or non-profit organizations is preferred.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

Travel required 10% in the KC metro area.
