Job Overview
The Communications Coordinator is a creative, mission-driven professional who will help tell the story of KC Common Good. This role manages social media and digital content, supports marketing campaigns, and amplifies the voices of people and neighborhoods most impacted by community violence. The Coordinator works closely with KC Common Good staff and a marketing firm, engaging internal and external audiences to inspire action.

Key Responsibilities
 
  Storytelling and Social Media Content

  • Capture and share stories from neighborhoods, programming, KC 360 meetings, and partner organizations.

  • Develop and manage a content calendar; aligning social media, email, and other content with engagement and goals.

  • Serve as primary manager of social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn), including planning, posting, and community engagement.

  • Write and edit clear, compelling copies (posts, captions, one-pagers, development, newsletters, blogs, basic scripts) that communicate mission, values, and impact.

  • Monitor analytics and adjust content strategy based on performance (engagement, reach, impressions, website traffic).

  • Coordinate with staff across programs to source stories, successes, and content opportunities.

  • Curate and maintain a community events calendar via the website CMS.

Graphic Design and Marketing Support

  • Collaborate on campaigns, development, social media, website, and event promotion.

  • Support campaign execution across email, social, print, and digital channels.

  • Capture photos and create basic visual assets that align with brand standards.

  • Produce flyers and graphic materials with quick turnaround to support programs and events.

  • Help manage project timelines, priorities, and deliverables.

  • Identify tools and processes that make communications and program support more efficient

Required Qualifications

  1. 2–3 years of experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing.

  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  3. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, visual arts, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  4. Experience working collaboratively on a team.

  5. Experience with Microsoft Office, cloud-based documents, Zoom, Canva or other graphic design tool(s), Hootsuite or other social media engagement platform(s), Adobe products or other design tool(s); willingness to learn new applications and identify innovative technologies that support organizational objectives.

  6. Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, best practices, and graphic design tools.

  7. Commitment to learn about collective impact networks, community safety, social determinants, social justice, and other focuses of KC Common Good programming.

  8. Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing needs.

  9. Creative, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently once aligned on goals.

Work conditions may include:

  • Hybrid position based in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

  • In-person work in KC 360 Village neighborhoods; some evenings and weekends are required.

  • Frequent use of email, video calls, phone calls, and text communication.

  • Reliable transportation is needed for meetings, events, and community activities.

Physical Demands

  • Regular sitting and standing; frequent handling of cameras and electronic equipment.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying of equipment up to 25 lbs.

  • Continuous use of vision at close and far distances to perform job duties.

Salary is commensurate with experience in the $55,000-$65,000 range.  Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, vision insurance plans, and a retirement savings account with employer match.
