Director of Music
This position is exempt, part-time (8-10 hours per week) with benefits.?Primary responsibilities include coordinating and planning the musical aspects of worship in coordination with the Pastor and overseeing the functions necessary for holding worship services.?
Competencies:
Effective conducting technique
Effective and efficient rehearsal techniques
Experience playing and/or conducting handbells
Experience planning lectionary driven worship preferred
Qualifications:
Degree in music (preferred) or equivalent experience required.
Responsibilities:?
Plan, prepare and direct music appropriate to each service of worship
Rehearse and direct vocal choir, handbell choir, and small ensemble(s)
Work with Pastor, Organist/Accompanist, and others as necessary in the worship planning process and make appropriate recommendations
Coordinate the worship calendar with the pastor to outline themes,?special music, and sanctuary decorations
Plan a diverse music program inclusive of many styles
Recruit soloists, instrumentalists and other musicians as needed
Maintain music library
Report weekly music license use through CCLI and CCS WORSHIPcast
Maintain digital inventory of music
Arrange for and oversee maintenance of instruments* in collaboration with the Organist ??
As needed, consult with pastor in selecting and providing appropriate music for weddings, funerals, and special services
Rehearse choirs sufficiently for optimum musical worship offerings
Arrange for a substitute when unable to be present
Track expenditures to stay within Session approved budget
Establish regular office hours and rehearsal times
Participate in church staff meetings and Church Life Committee meetings
Assist the Administrative and Communications Coordinator in scheduling congregational volunteers for worship including ushers/greeters, A/V techs, communion preparers and liturgists
Coordinate with Pastor and Organist/Accompanist in planning non-Sunday special worship services, including Longest Night, Christmas Eve, and Maundy Thursday
*Instruments include: Austin pipe organ, Yamaha C6 piano, Elburn piano, Yamaha electronic keyboard, Schulmerich handbells
Relationships:?
Supervised by the Pastor, accountable to the Church Life Committee, working with other staff members as a team.?
Supervisory Responsibility: Section leaders and accompanist
Evaluation:?
Performance reviews conducted annually by the pastor and the Session Personnel Committee. The Session Personnel Committee will annually review the adequacy of compensation.?
Compensation:
This position is part-time (8-10 hours per week). Salary starts at $18,000 and is negotiable based on experience and education.
