About the Role

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is seeking a detail-oriented and calm-under-pressure individual to serve as Supervisor, Security Command Center (Day). In this essential frontline leadership role, you will provide supervision and operational support for the day-to-day functions of the Security Command Center (SCC), ensuring the safety and security of museum staff, guests, and property.

The ideal candidate brings excellent communication and problem-solving skills, thrives in fast-paced environments, and has prior experience in dispatch, security operations, or emergency response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the SCC during the day shift, ensuring optimal coverage and response readiness

  • Supervise SCC officers, providing guidance, training, and daily task oversight

  • Monitor security systems and coordinate response protocols with on-site teams

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for emergency communications and incident escalation

  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and system checks to ensure compliance with museum procedures

  • Collaborate with Security and Safety leadership on continuous improvement and policy implementation

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in security, dispatch, or emergency response settings with supervisory experience, specifically in hiring, performance management and improvement. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to remain composed under pressure

  • Familiarity with video surveillance, access control systems, and radio communications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain CPR/AED certification upon hire

Schedule

This is a full-time, hourly position with a regular daytime schedule that may include weekends or holidays depending on museum needs.
