Job Description: Public Policy Coordinator
 
Overall Responsibilities: Conduct public policy research and analysis, as well as volunteer engagement efforts to advance the public policy positions of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce. This role is ideal for someone passionate about public policy, government affairs, or regulatory compliance.
Accountable to: Executive Vice President & Chief Policy Officer
 

Specific Duties:

  • Research legislative, regulatory, and policy issues relevant to the organization.
  • Draft policy briefs, reports, testimony, press releases, newsletters, and presentations for many audiences, including the staff team, Chamber leadership and committees, Opportunity NOW investors, governing bodies, and the general public.
  • Monitor and track policy developments at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts, including coordinating meetings and preparing materials.
  • Analyze and compile data for advocacy initiatives and organize outreach efforts.
  • Maintain policy databases and ensure accuracy of information.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to analyze policy impacts and support decision-making.
  • Utilize customer database software to drive grassroots engagement in support of chamber priorities.
  • Connect business investment with quality of life, quantifying and communicating the value of business contributions through jobs, taxes, and overall productivity to the community and state.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated strength in research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.  Proficiency with graphic design software a plus.
  • Experience with legislative tracking tools or policy research databases is a plus.
  • Demonstrated genuine interest in government affairs, advocacy, or policy development; with previous engagement an advantage; knowledge of Kansas, Johnson County, and Overland Park government is a plus.
