Help one more child spend one less day alone. This employment opportunity is for a full-time overnight position of dedication, service, caring and compassion, for helping homeless youth, ages 16-21, and their children, living in our transitional living program in Kansas City, MO. The Youth Advocate Overnight staff must be at least 21 years of age. Overnight staff are required to remain awake and active during all work hours. The shifts for this position are 8:00pm-8:00am, with alternating weekdays, weekends and holidays. HALO is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year.
Job Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Kansas City Program Director and Senior Youth Advocate to assist in case management for residents
Work as a team with other Overnight Youth Advocates
Encourage/empower residents as they go through the program, with the goal of helping them becoming contributing members of their community
Be available to assist residents as needed, such as: assist them with any issues they have with their living space, participate in daily room checks, supervision of daily assigned chores, and respond to emergencies
Facilitate and participate in evening activities
Ensure that all residents and their dependents are safe and compliant to all policies outlined in the handbook
Must be comfortable with using a computer and entering reports using proper grammar and punctuation, on the individual progress of residents each night using the communication software provided by HALO
Actively engage with residents and their dependents and form trusting relationships with them. Be available to assist residents as needed, such as crisis intervention, transportation to and from work when needed at night, passing medication when needed, periodic room checks, completing rounds of the building to make sure all exits are securely locked and
Should a resident break any rule(s) or an emergency situation occur staff will follow the HALO Handbook and Crisis Protocol, including completion of Incident Reports for State Licensing.
Respond to emergencies, using Trauma Informed language, and following the protocol for the situation.
Utilize security systems to monitor safety. Make multiple rounds throughout the building each night, ensuring the alarm remains set and doors and windows all remain secured, furnace rooms and water closets are inspected daily.
Custodial duties and maintenance of all areas of the building. Sweeping the walkways or putting down salt in bad weather. Light shoveling of snow on the main walkway.
Awareness of the next day's activities in the home and preparation of spaces and tasks to accommodate those activities. ( i.e., set up for volunteer orientation or a group that will be visiting. Set up for professional development the next morning, etc. ).
Assist with office administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Must have obtained a minimum of a high school diploma. Undergraduate degree preferred.
Understanding of the HALO Mission, and a willingness to help make HALO a better place each day
Must complete 40 hours annually of training as required by state licensing
Must pass Med-Tech Certification and CPR Certification as provided by HALO
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage projects, track maintenance inspections, use a mobile phone clock in/out, comfortable with computers and basic software systems
Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Candidates must have a clean driving record and must pass a background check
Must be able to lift 25lbs.
