LIHEAP Outreach Specialist - Bilingual

Summary: The LIHEAP Outreach Specialist promotes the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The goal is to spread knowledge and understanding of this program, and to assist applicants as needed.

Through our office serving residents of Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties, the program serves eligible households with utility assistance. The Outreach Specialist acts as a liaison between the community and the staff processing applications and works with applicants who prefer in-person assistance. They work closely with our utility partners to maximize program benefits and to promote efficiency. 

Requirements: BA/BS in a related field and 1 year of related experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate and provide service to individuals from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to handle stress and remain calm. Patience and empathy are essential for this role. Computer proficiency with Windows-based operating system.

Responsibilities: Facilitate outreach activities including participating in community meetings/events to share information. May do outreach to local agencies, schools, community groups, and government agencies. Collaborate with other local agencies that may be providing additional utility assistance. Work directly with participants to assist them as they complete their application. This position will be required to regularly travel throughout the metro area and may be co-located at various provider agencies in Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties.

Salary range: 35,000 - 40,000
