Position Summary
The Refugee department serves hundreds of newcomers who rely on the agency for essential transportation services. Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by providing critical role in the successful resettlement of these clients by providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation. This includes driving clients to scheduled medical and other Case Management appointments, as arranged by the R&P Coordinator and Department Manager. The role may also require airport pickups during evenings and weekends, depending on client arrival times. Essential Functions

  • Transport clients to scheduled appointments in support of R&P Core Services and other Case Management appointments as assigned.
  • Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers during transport.
  • Maintain compliance with state traffic laws and regulations for the safe operation of motor vehicles.
  • Keep passenger vehicles clean, both inside and outside.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and notify the Department Manager when service is required.
  • Assist Case Managers with client airport pickups, as directed by the R&P Coordinator.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, and any incidents during transportation.
  • Attend team meetings as needed to stay updated on programming and client needs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with the broader team.
  • Work closely with interpreters to ensure clear communication between clients and service providers when language barriers arise.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the R&P Coordinator to support the successful resettlement of clients
Skills and Competencies
  • Thorough understanding of traffic rules and regulations within the state of Kansas.
  • Minimum of five years of safe driving experience in the United States.
  • Ability to operate passenger vehicles in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., particularly when assisting clients with luggage during airport pickups.

  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required
  • High School Diploma, GED, or 2-3 years of experience in transporting individuals in passenger vehicles.
  • A valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations within the last three years.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive agency background check.
Additional Information
This role is an essential part of the Refugee and Resettlement team, providing direct services to newly arrived clients. The successful candidate must be flexible, able to work evenings and weekends when required, and demonstrate a commitment to the mission of assisting refugees in their resettlement process.
