Bookkeeper/Business Manager
Position Summary
Christ United Methodist Church is seeking a detail-oriented, trustworthy, and organized Bookkeeper to manage our daily financial operations. This role is vital to ensuring that our resources are stewarded effectively to support our mission and ministry. The ideal candidate will have experience in fund accounting and a commitment to maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process invoices, prepare checks for signature, and manage digital payments.
- Execute bi-weekly payroll for clergy and staff, including tax withholdings and pension contributions.
- Record weekly tithes and offerings, ensuring restricted funds (e.g., Missions, Capital Fund) are tracked accurately.
- Process weekly offerings and contributions with confidentiality and integrity.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and budget-to-actual reports for the Finance Committee and Administrative Board.
- Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts monthly.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and year-end reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual local church audit and the year-end Charge Conference reports.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analysis reports for Church leadership.
- Responsible for completing all government filings, including IRS and State.
- Administers all Church insurance policies including property, liability, workers’ compensation and any other plans.
- Coordinate with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Pastor as needed.
- Attend the Administrative Board Meeting each month.
- Ensure compliance with the United Methodist financial guidelines and best practices.
- Ensure alignment with the mission and values of Christ United Methodist Church.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a non-profit or church setting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks / ACS Technologies (e.g., church-specific software a plus), Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel. Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
- Familiarity with fund accounting and the United Methodist Church-specific structures (apportionments, connectional giving) is a significant plus.
- High level of discretion regarding private donor information and a collaborative spirit. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Hours: Approximately 18 hours per week. This is an onsite position.
• Compensation: $30,000 annually
• Benefits: This is a part-time position without benefits. PTO and paid holidays are provided.
