Organization Description: Kansas City Ballet is a 30-member professional ballet company under the direction of Artistic Director Devon Carney and Executive Director David Gray. Our professional company, the second company (comprised of KCB II and Trainees), and our professional dance school, seek to nurture and develop our artists, audiences, and students in the values inherent in the creativity, diversity, and joy of dance.

Job Description and Responsibilities: The role of Technical Director is a new position within the organization and as such the job description will evolve over time. The primary focus is the implementation and supervision of technical elements required for performances, rehearsals and special events for the organization.

The Technical Director will assist with day-to-day operations and work cross-departmentally to further the mission and vision of the organization.

Kansas City Ballet season includes 3 programs of mixed reps or full lengths, Nutcracker, New Moves (studio performances) Family Series, KCBII performances, KCBS & KCYB performances and other special events throughout the year. This position requires moderate to strenuous activity and irregular work hours during performance weeks.
  
Requirements

  • 5+ years directly relevant experience
  • Competency across multiple technical areas in the production of live events, ballet experience a plus.
  • Strong carpentry and rigging skills required.
  • Previous experience with supervising an IATSE crew required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient with a range of computer platforms including Microsoft, Apple, Google. Proficiency with CAD programs a plus.
  • Attention to detail is critical, exceptional organizational skills and ability to self-motivate
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • A professional presence and ability to interact with diverse populations,  while representing the best of Kansas City Ballet.
