LIHEAP Outreach Specialist - bilingual (English/Spanish)

The primary responsibility of the LIHEAP Outreach Specialist is to promote the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The goal is to spread knowledge and understanding of this program, and to assist applicants as needed. The Outreach Specialist acts as a liaison between the community and the staff processing applications and works with applicants who prefer in-person assistance. They work closely with our utility partners to maximize program benefits and to promote efficiency. 

Mid America Assistance Coalition (MAAC) has a contract with the State of Missouri to process LIHEAP applications for residents in Clay, Jackson and Platte Counties. Employees must be willing and able to adhere to program guidelines and requirements as set forth by the State.

Requirements: BA/BS in a related field and 1 year of related experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Reliable transportation. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate and provide service to individuals from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to handle stress and remain calm. Patience and empathy are essential for this role. Computer proficiency with Windows-based operating system. Must pass a background screen.

Responsibilities: Facilitate outreach activities including participating in community meetings/events to share information. May do outreach to local agencies, schools, community groups, and government agencies. Collaborate with other local agencies that may be providing additional utility assistance. Work directly with participants to assist them as they complete their application. This position will be required to regularly travel throughout the metro area and may be co-located at various provider agencies in Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Lifting is occasionally required (offices supplies, boxes of copy paper and files)
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
  • Ability to work in a confined area
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time

This is a non-exempt salary position with an annual pay rate of 35K - 40K (roughly $18-$20.50/hr) based on a 37.5 hour work week.
